I started reading “The Magicians” by Lev Grossman this morning. I could have kept reading if I hadn’t had a paper to write. It’s so good!!
If you did not know, you can make lists of books on IndieBound.org. The lists can be used for anything. Use it as a shopping list, a wish list, or keep track of your List.
I’ve been working on creating my List in IndieBound’s Book Lists.
You can check it out My List and create your own. IndieBound provides links to your favorite independent book stores, too, so it’s easier to find them at stores near you and help the economy, community, and environment!

Why I read it: I decided to read this because besides knowing he designed houses and attended UW-Madison, I didn’t know much else about Frank Lloyd Wright. This book is about an affair between Frank and another woman named Mamah. Wright is not someone I would have pegged to have had an affair, so I decided I must see what was behind the story.
What I thought: I was very intrigued by the storyline before I started the book, but it didn’t live up to my expectations. The story was a bit slow moving at some points, but I did enjoy the way the romance between Frank and Mamah evolved. Their romance seemed natural, and I was definitely rooting for them. I recommend this to anyone who loves a good romance, and would like to learn a little bit more about Frank Lloyd Wright and his past.

What’s next on my list: I Don’t Care about Your Band: Lessons learned from Romantic Disappointments by Julie Klausner
Why I Want to Read It: Kat loaned it to me, and I’m in the mood for a silly book. The author has written for Saturday Night Live’s “TV Funhouse”, and because of that, I know this book will be hilarious. Plus, Julie Klausner is a redhead, and redheads rock.
I’m hoping to get some reading done this weekend. We’ll see though with a performance and all. - Kat
Okay. I know I continuously extended the deadline for finishing this book, but I did finally finish it!!
I finished: The Road by Cormac McCarthy
Why I Read It: A friend was reading it and I picked it up when he set it down just to see what it was about. I had heard about it in a magazine because the movie is coming out very soon. I also saw it on a list of books you should read before you die.
What I Thought: When I did find time to read the book, it went very quickly. It has no chapters, so you don’t really feel like it ever stops. It just flows. It was rather sad at some points. The entire book has a morbid theme, but that didn’t hinder the readability of the book. It did take me awhile to get used to the lack of grammar sometimes and quotation marks.
What’s Next on My List: In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan.
Why I Want to Read It: It’s my university’s common read book for this year. He’s also a best selling author and the material of the book interests me very much especially as a dancer, a supporter of all things local and independent, and a decedent of farmers. I heard Pollan speak and I’ve gone to one Book Discussion, so it’s time I actually read the book.

Hey!
What I’ve learned from my recent book adventuring is that if you set a goal of just reading five minutes a day, a chapter a day, or ten pages a day, you will eventually finish your book! It won’t seem so overwhelming either!
Keep reading everyone!

I have one day to finish The Road! Can I do it?
I sure hope so!! Only forty more pages!! If I only did have so much other homework…
I am finishing The Road this weekend! I promise!!! I keep going to book discussions, so my List keeps growing! Ah!! It always does!!!
Hmmm… Maybe I will read some of The Road this morning while I do my laundry or maybe I’ll actually do my chem readings for once…
I definitely missed my deadline for finishing The Road. I’ve been so busy studying!! I’ll have to extend it again… let’s say the 21st!
